Kate Robinson's Profile Picture

Kate Robinson

Engineering Workplace Manager

I lead a team of multi-skilled engineering professionals to deliver workplace modules through impactful and meaningful work placements that develop skills and confidence as undergraduates transition form student to professional. Alongside this my team creates and delivers initiatives that develop and enhance the workplace experience supporting the application of academic learning on real projects and facilitating access to experts across the business.

I have over 20 years industry experience in mechanical engineering, product design and project management, delivering engineering solutions across Dyson projects including structural solutions for The Dyson BallTM , and separation systems technology across chord free products.

Participating in an industrial placement year during my studies, I completed my degree thinking that I had learnt more in my one year in industry then the four other years of taught content, on reflection, this was down to the experience of applying knowledge and seeing tangible outputs of my work. From my experiences, the application of knowledge is vital to becoming a successful engineer so I know first-hand how impactful the Institute’s approach to workplace learning is.

Throughout my career I have always found gratification in mentoring and coaching others, I really value seeing others have those lightbulb moments. When I was looking for a new challenge at Dyson; mentoring, coaching, and learning were a big driver in my decision to transition to the Dyson Institute in 2021.
