Student support intro

Gardening Club

Helping you thrive.

While the Dyson Institute is a rewarding and fulfilling place to learn, it can also be challenging – you work on a robust academic degree alongside live Dyson projects, all-year-round. To help you thrive, there is a wealth of support services available to you. And because of our small year groups, we can respond to your individual needs.

We are committed to offering our students a supportive and stretching environment in which they can thrive personally as well as academically, as they prepare to become the engineering leaders of the future. We believe in offering a holistic approach to student wellbeing: eating well, sleeping well, exercising regularly and taking time out to relax on a regular basis are the foundations of good wellbeing.

Students have an allocated student support advisor, the student support team are on hand during working hours to provide support on a wide range of needs.

A lot of emphasis is placed on the student support. I've gained a lot of confidence and soft skills since I've got here. There's lots of ways to put yourself out of your comfort zone.

Personal development

We offer services and develop workshops to support our students in developing transferable skills, set and achieve personal and professional goals, and prepare for their future as an engineer. Our services are designed to empower students to reach their full potential both during and after their time at the Institute.

Coaching and 1-2-1 support

Executive coaching is a professional development strategy that involves working with an individual to unlock their potential, enhance their performance and achieve their goals. The aim is to improve leadership and management performance by developing the individuals’ self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and capacity to influence others. The coach’s role is to inspire and support, helping the individual to understand themselves better and see more clearly with compassion, whilst discovering the extent of the individual’s capabilities. The practice is action-based, meaning that the focus is on altering the individual’s thinking and encouraging tangible work and progress. The coaches will tailor their practice to fit the individuals' needs and goals to generate a development plan and to gain a fresh perspective on abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.

All students have three compulsory coaching conversations per year; more are available as required.
